Breen To Take On Role As Council Cathaoirleach

James Breen will be elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council this afternoon.

The local authority holds its AGM today, in which local representatives are set to elect the Kilnamona Independent Councillor and former TD as Cathaoirleach.

He takes the role from Sixmilebridge Councillor John Crowe, who was called the Mayor of Clare when he received the honour last year.

It subsequently emerged that this title can no longer be used for the county's first citizen, under the changes to local government, and Councillor Crowe feels that should be reversed.
