Woman Seriously Injured In Alleged Assault In Ennis Has Died From Injuries

A woman who was seriously injured in an alleged assault in Ennis almost three weeks ago has died from her injuries.

Gardaí say a review is underway into whether the enquiry will be upgraded to a murder investigation.

Sharon Bennett suffered serious head wounds in an incident in the Market area of the town on January 21st and was subsequently taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

She died from her injuries last night.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and detained at Shannon Garda Station in connection with the incident and later appeared in court charged with assault causing harm of the woman.

A Senior Garda Spokesperson has confirmed to Clare FM that the enquiry is now under review as to whether it will be upgraded to a murder investigation.
