Shock In North Clare After Young Teen Dies In Farm Accident

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are carrying out investigations into the death of a young teenager on a farm in West Clare.

The 14-year-old boy lost his life in an accident involving a tractor, on land near Ennistymon.

The alarm was raised shortly before 9 o’clock this morning, after the 14-year-old boy was involved in an accident involving a tractor, on land near Mooghna Lough, which is located between Ennistymon and Miltown Malbay.

Ambulance, units from Clare County Fire Service and Gardaí were dispatched to the incident.

A short time later, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has since been transferred to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

It’s understood no-one else was injured in the incident.

Gardaí say their investigation is at an early stage and that further inquiries will establish the cause of the accident.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and has launched its own investigation.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty says the whole community is in shock.
