One Dead And Another Injured In East Clare Road Crash

One person has died and another person has been injured following a road crash in East Clare.

The two car collision happened on the Scariff to Ennis Road shortly before 6 o’clock this morning.

Emergency services were alerted at around quarter to six this morning after two cars collided on the R352 at Ballinahinch.

Units from Clare County Fire Service, Gardaí and Ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

A man in his 20s, who was the driver and sole occupant of one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was also injured and taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.

He was also travelling alone and his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The victim’s body was removed from the scene by hearse at around 9.10am and transported under Garda escort to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination will take place later.

The R352 between Bodyke and Ennis will be closed for the coming hours while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. It’s not expected to re-open until late afternoon.

Diversions are in place, with those travelling from the Ennis direction diverted at the Beckman Coulter factory, and those travelling from Bodyke asked to divert at Silvergrove Cross.
