A Garda investigation is underway into a fatal fire in West Clare.
A woman in her 70’s lost her life in the blaze, which happened in Farrihy Bay, Kilkee.
The alarm was raised shortly before 11 o’clock last night and units from Clare County Fire Service, based in Kilkee and Kilrush attended the scene.
Firefighters, who battled the blaze for a number of hours overnight, discovered the body of a woman in her mid-seventies, during the course of the operation.
The fire caused extensive damage to the house in the small west Clare community.
A forensic examination of the scene is taking place this morning to determine the cause of the fire, but Gardaí say they don’t suspect anything suspicious at this stage.
