Clare County council is urging motorists to drive with extreme care this morning amid reports of dangerous conditions on some roads in the county.

Winter maintenance crews are continuing to treat Clare’s priority routes but rain, sleet and freezing conditions during the night have led to black ice on untreated road surfaces.

The local authority says conditions can’t be guaranteed even on treated roads.

Roads around Kilmihil, the Quin Road and Tulla are reported to be particularly bad, as well entrances to housing estates, while pedestrians are urged to take extra care on footpaths.

A weather advisory remains in place until Friday.
