BREAKING: Gardaí Satisfied Security Threat Sent To Clare Schools Not Credible

Gardaí say they are satisfied that a security threat sent to Clare schools is not credible and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

A number of schools in Clare have been closed this morning, after what’s described by Gardaí as a “communication” was sent to a number of educational establishments.

An email of the communication, seen by Clare FM indicated a security threat at schools in the county.

A number of schools in Shannon and Ennis were advised to close until noon today as a precaution.

Gardaí have carried out an initial assessment and a Senior Spokesperson has confirmed to Clare FM that they’re satisfied the security threat is not credible and there’s no ongoing risk to the public.

Gardaí say they are engaging with the affected educational establishments with regard to this incident and that enquiries are ongoing.

They say no further information is available at this time.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Clare TD Cathal Crowe has expressed shock over the incident, saying “this was a very scary incident for parents, students, school staff and the general public and I have full confidence in Clare’s Gardaí to properly investigate this and establish all the facts”.

Clare’s Aontú representative has described the incident as “a new low in crime for the county”.

June Dillon says “to threaten and frighten children, school staff and parents to such an extent is an appalling action”.

She’s commended the response of Gardaí and “joins with the rest of the concerned residents of Clare, in wishing a safe and secure return to schools for those involved”.

Minister for Education Helen McEntee has told Clare FM she expects all schools affected to fully reopen tomorrow

“The Department of Education has worked closely with An Garda Síochána and with the impacted schools throughout the day, and has sent a direct communication to those schools offering guidance and support.

The Department expects that schools impacted will reopen tomorrow.”
