Bravery Award For Ennisman

An Ennis paramedic is to be given an award for bravery, after a daring rescue in which he saved a woman's life.

Seamus McCarthy was visiting Inis Mor last week when a 21-year-old Indian woman was sept into the water at the worm hole or Poll na bPeist.

Having seen the incident, Seamus tied a canvas jacket to a backpack to construct a makeshift winch that he used to bring Aparajita Gupta to safety.

She escaped the near-death experience with just a broken ankle, and Seamus will now be honoured for his actions at a ceremony in Dublin in November.
