The HSE has confirmed that it’s allocated over 22 million euro extra to hospitals in the Mid West, including Ennis General.
Health officials have released their 1.2 billion euro service plan for the Western Region, a document which contains boosts for local daycare services but a number of other cutbacks too.
The HSE’s service plan contains cuts to services for older people, disability and social inclusion in the Mid West, totalling over 5.5 million euro.
Clare’s primary care budget is also down by over 700 thousand euro to under 74 million though spending on mental health and palliative care here is up – the changes are in line with those experienced elsewhere in the West.
The document also contains provisions to support the ongoing enhancement of Clarecastle Day Care Centre, a 450,000 euro refurbishment of Gort Glas Day Centre in Ennis and for the first time, funding for Carrigoran Nursing Home to help run it’s new daycare services.
The Midwest’s six hospitals, including Ennis General, have received a 10% funding boost, up to 238 million euro. Savings of nearly 22 million from requested amounts will still need to be found however.
Further details are expected when full plans for the Mid Western Hospitals group is published at a briefing on Monday.
It’s expected this document will include further detail on plans to re-brand the county’s Accident and Emergency Unit as a Medical Assessment Unit, with the most serious cases being transferred directly to Dooradoyle, as well as more on the development of day case surgery activities in Ennis.
