A boil water notice remains in place for parts of South East Clare and Limerick.
Uisce Éireann says due to possible inadequate disinfection at the plant and leaving the Newcastle reservoir, the drinking water quality entering parts of Limerick City & Environs Public Water Supply has been affected.
Following consultation with the Health Service Executive, Uisce Éireann has issued a Boil Water Notice with immediate effect, to protect the health of consumers.
The affected areas in Clare include Westbury, Parteen, Larkins Cross, Ardnacrusha, Shannon Banks, Knocklisheen and Clonlara.
The utility is advising people to boil water for one minute and let it cool for the purposes of drinking, preparing drinks made with water, preparation of salads and similar foods, which are not cooked prior to eating, brushing of teeth or making ice.
It’s also warning that domestic water filters will not render water safe to drink, that caution should be taken when bathing children to ensure that they don’t swallow the bathing water and that ice cubes in freezers are discarded.
People who have pets and are concerned about the impact of providing mains water while this boil water notice is in place, are being advised to ask your local vet for advice.
Uisce Éireann says it doesn’t know how long the boil water notice will remain in place, but is reassuring it will continue to liaise and consult with the HSE with a view to lifting the notice as soon as practicable.
