Bog Money Laundering Operation to Return to Courts

A 54 year old man is due back in court in January in connection with the seizure of almost 1.5million euro in cash found buried in a bog near the Clare Limerick Border last December.

John Duffy, of Shanabooly Road, Ballynanty, Limerick, has been charged with possession of 1 million 494,thousand 430 euro at Portcrusha, Montpellier, knowing it was the proceeds of crime.

Following a five month surveillance operation, Gardai found some of the money buried in bag in the ground, while a mini-digger and a tumble drier, which was being used to dry the cash, were also discovered on the site.

John Duffy has been remanded on bail to appear before the District Court in Limerick on January 14th.
