The search for a missing Clare man has been stood down following the discovery of a body in the sea off Caherush Point this evening.
Stephen Mungovan, 20, was reported missing early on Monday after efforts to contact him failed. He was last seen late on Sunday night.
Gardaí and Irish Coastguard units from Kilkee and Doolin carried out searches on Monday and were joined by naval divers yesterday as well as a large number of local people and volunteer divers.
The Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter also carried out several searches around the Spanish Point area.
This evening a body was found at Caherush Point by Naval divers and transferred to Limerick University Hospital for formal identification.
Martony Vaughan of Kilkee Coast Guard told Clare FM the search had involved hundreds of local people as well as the rescue services in sometimes difficult conditions.
