Body Recovered From Lough Derg Following Jet Ski Incident

A body has been recovered from the water in Lough Derg.

Emergency services were alerted late this afternoon, after a man got into difficulty in the water in Killaloe.

It’s understood it followed an incident involving a jet ski.

An extensive search involving Gardaí, the Killaloe Coastguard and the Killaloe/Ballina Search and Rescue got underway.

The Shannon-based Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 115 was also tasked to the scene.

The body, believed to be in his late teens, was recovered from the water shortly before seven o’clock this evening.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was subsequently removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, for a postmortem examination.

Gardaí say they are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

In a statement, the Irish Coast Guard has extended its sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
