A body has been recovered during the search for a missing woman in Co Clare.
The discovery was made this morning by volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard.
Emergency services were alerted at around 3.30 on Saturday afternoon after a body was spotted in the sea below the Cliffs of Moher.
Gardaí and the Irish Coast Guard were dispatched to the scene and a search operation was quickly mounted, but conditions throughout the weekend were too rough to attempt a recovery.
Coast Guard personnel continued to monitor weather conditions, tides and currents over the two days in the hope of making a recovery.
Searches resumed early this morning, and soon afterwards a Coast Guard land search team located the body on the shoreline, close to Doolin village.
The remains were recovered to the Doolin Coast Guard station before being transferred to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.
The body is believed to be that of a Polish national in her 30’s.
Gardaí have confirmed that the search for the missing woman has now been stood down.
