The Tánaiste has expressed his condolences to the family of James Nolan.
It follows confirmation that a body found in a river in Poland yesterday is that of the missing 21 year old football fan from Wicklow.
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
James Nolan became separated from his friends in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz on Saturday night.
He was reported missing the next day, sparking a major search operation, and the young man’s body was found in a river yesterday morning.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs says Ireland’s Ambassador to Poland is with members of James Nolan’s family in Bydgoszcz and embassy officials will be providing all possible assistance to ensure his remains are returned to Ireland as soon as possible.
Eamon Gilmore has also expressed his thanks to those involved in the operation to find the Wicklow student.
He says Irish fans received a ‘warm and generous’ welcome throughout the Euro 2012 championships, but he says the solidarity and support received since James was reported missing has been ‘extraordinary’.
