A blue plaque will be unveiled in Miltown Malbay this weekend to commemorate a local war hero & leading academic.
Dr Micahel Hillery served as an IRA Brigade Medical Officer throughout the Irish War Of Independence while also tending to the needs of the people of West Clare & far beyond as a general practitioner.
Dr.Hillery was regarded for his selfless bravery during the war , putting his life on the line on many occassions to deliver urgent medical care to IRA volunteers in the midst of intense British military surveillance.
Great grand-nephew, David Hillery says acts of kindness were second nature to Dr. Michael.
