Each individual parish in the Killaloe Diocese will be allowed to make their own decision on whether to defer Communions and Confirmations until September.
The Bishops in the three dioceses within the MidWest region received a letter from the director of the HSE MidWest, recommending that the religious ceremonies be rescheduled until more of the population are fully vaccinated.
It comes amid concern among health officials about a recent spike in cases in the region and the potential for large social gatherings taking place afterwards.
Having since sought clarity from the HSE, Bishop of Killaloe Fintan Monahan has advised that each individual parish liaise with both parents and school authorities before deciding whether or not to proceed with the ceremonies.
Bishop Fintan Monahan says many parishes have already set dates for both Communions and Confirmations.
