Bishop of Killaloe Kieran O’Reilly stepping down from role to take up Archbishop role in Cashel and Emly

The Bishop of Killaloe is stepping down from his role after being appointed Archbishop of the Diocese of Cashel and Emly. 

Pope Francis has appointed Kieran O'Reilly as the replacement for retiring Archbishop Dermot Clifford and he's due to take up his new role in Tipperary in February.

The announcement was made at mass in Thurles today.

Bishop Kieran O'Reilly replaced the former Bishop Willie Walsh in the Diocese of Killaloe in May of 2010. 

His new appointment means the process of choosing a new Bishop to be based in Ennis will commence in the New Year.

Speaking in Thurles, Bishop O'Reilly thanked the people in the diocese of Killaloe and said he's looking forward to new challenge
