Bishop Of Killaloe Fears Priest Shortages Could Mean End Of Traditional Funerals

The Bishop of Killaloe fears the widespread shortage of priests could mean the end of traditional funeral services.

At present, 27 of the 58 parishes in the Diocese of Killaloe have no resident priest under the age of 75 which has led to concerns over the future of religious services across the county.

It comes just one day after the Bishop of Kildare asked Leaving Cert students to “seriously consider” joining the priesthood.

Bishop of Killaloe Fintan Monahan says if shortages are not addressed, future funerals could take the streamlined form that they had during the pandemic.
