The Justice Minister says he hopes a government bill published today, concerning spent convictions, can be enacted without delay.

It provides for certain criminal convictions to become spent after a number of years conviction-free have elapsed – depending on the sentence originally imposed by the courts.
The Bill covers certain custodial sentences of 1 year or less, as well as a range of non-custodial sentences.
Minister Alan Shatter says this legislation brings Ireland into line with most other EU Member States.
