Bill For Protection Of US Military In Shannon Revealed

The state spent 1.4 million euro to provide security to US military passing through Shannon Airport last year.

That's according to new figures provided by the Departments of Defence and Justice, in reply to a Dail question from Independent TDs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has confirmed that the State spent €1.2m providing Garda protection at Shannon in 2015, while the army bill came to €180,000.

Between 2003 and 2009, the bill for protecting the US military at Shannon stood at almost €18m.
