Big Tom’s Passing ‘A Sad Day But One Of Celebration’

The Taoiseach and President are leading tributes to country music singer Big Tom, who’s died at the age of 81.

The Mainliners frontman and Co. Monaghan native passed away peacefully this morning.

Michael D Higgins described him as one of the “most charismatic and influential artists in Irish country music”.

Big Tom was well-known for a string of hits including Four Country Roads and The Old Rustic Bridge, and was the inaugural inductee to Ireland’s Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
