A prominent Clare psychiatrist has defended the growing use of prescription drugs to deal with anxiety and depression.
Dr. Moosajee Bhamjee was speaking in light of a new study from the Irish Examiner, which shows that nearly 7.500 resident or 7% of the county's population were taking these medications in 2012.

The figure is broadly in line with the national average, but that is on the increase.
Dr. Bhamjee, who is also a former Clare TD, believes some people are now in greater need of this type of medication.
