Begley Shoots Down Suggestion Limerick Mayor Would Benefit Clare

The Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council has poured cold water over suggestions that a directly elected Mayor of Limerick would benefit Clare economically.

A proposal to bring back the office of mayor to the city has been passed by voters there, despite Waterford and Cork both rejecting it.

A report on the matter will now be submitted to the Oireachtas, while Fine Gael Senator Maria Byrne has said that such an office would lead to an economic boost for the entire region, including Clare.
