Traveller families based at an illegal encampment in Barefield, have hit out at Clare County Council plans to move them on, insisting they’ve nowhere to go.
As locals in Barefield express concerns about the ongoing presence of caravans, vehicles and dogs off the Ennis by-pass, the council says the encampment is seriously impacting on the community and is liaising with Gardaí and the HSE in preparation of enforcement action against the occupants.
Six families including 10 children who are part of the wider O’Donoghue family have been living on the link road to the M18 for months now, but say they’re not there by choice, and would gladly leave if housing or a halting site was available.
Mary O’Donoghue, who’s living on the illegal site with seven of her sons, their families and children, told Clare FM they’re only in Barefield as they were moved on from Tulla, and have never had any option of a more permanent home.
