Bannon Eliminated From Marathon Longford-Westmeath Count

Outgoing Fine Gael TD James Bannon has been eliminated following the 14th count in the Longford Westmeath constituency.

It follows the distribution of Independent Alliance candidate Kevin Boxer Moran’s surplus votes.

James Bannon's votes – of over 7,000 – will now be distributed between the remaining candidates; Peter Burke of Fine Gael who looks set to take the third seat, as well as Labour’s Willie Penrose and Sinn Féin’s Paul Hogan who will fight for the last seat.

James Bannon says as the margin is very narrow – he will take advice on whether to pursue a legal option.
