More Bank Branches Likely To Close

The head of the Banking and Payments Federation admits more bank branches are likely to close.

The group, which represents the banking sector, has released a survey showing an increase in contactless payments, and a reduction in cash withdrawals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The change in consumer behaviour suggests a move away from cash, one which would call into question the viability of smaller bank branches going forward.

Already, Bank of Ireland has temporarily closed over 100 branches nationwide for the duration of the pandemic, including in Kilkee, Miltown Malbay and Tulla.
