Ballybeg woodland set for temporary closure

A popular woodland area in Clare will be closed temporarily from Monday next to facilitate the removal of trees.

More than 500 trees at Ballybeg Amenity Woodland in Ennis are in need of remediation or removal following extensive storm damage early last year.

Clare County Council carried out a survey of the 25-hectare woodland adjacent to a Special Area of Conservation which is ranked as one of the most important in Europe for the Lesser Horseshoe Bat.

The woodland area will be closed from Monday, August 31st to Friday, September 11th and the local authority says that all works carried out will be aimed at minimising the possible impact to the home of the bat and enhancing the woodland area.
