Families of the 6 Irish students who died in yesterday's balcony collapse in Berkeley, California, are arriving in the US this morning.
The victims have been named as 21-year-olds Olivia Burke, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcan Miller and Eimear Walsh – and 22-year-old Irish-American Ashley Donohoe from California – who was a cousin of one of those involved.
7 other Irish students were seriously injured when the balcony gave way – with a number of them said to be in a life-threatening condition.
Investigations into what caused the collapse have been ongoing in California, and the Mayor of Berkeley says he wants to ensure that such accidents never happen again.
Tom Bates has promised that the probe will be extremely thorough.
