County Clare recorded the fourth hightest number of births in Munster in the first three months of the year.
New CSO figures also show that heart attacks and cancer were the biggest killers during the same time period.
According to vital statisicts released by the CSO there were 455 births in County Clare between January and March of this year.
320 were to married parents, while the remainder 135 were to single mums or unmarried partners.
The highest number of births were to mums aged between 30 and 34 followed by women in the 35 to 39 year age bracket –
11 girls under the age of twenty also gave birth during the three months period – again the fourth highest number in the Munster Region.
There were five infant deaths between January and March – 3 of them were children under the 1 years of age , while the remaining two were under 28 days old.
The figures also show that overall – 212 adult deaths were recorded during the same time period – 115 men and 97 women
Disease of the circultory system- such as heart attacks were the main killer – they accounted for 80 deaths, followed closely by cancers at 55 and respiratory diseases at 31.
