An award-winning Clare carer says she’s not convinced that the next Government will deliver on their promises to people in her profession.
It comes as the Department of Social Protection has announced that €1.2 million in funding from dormant accounts will go towards eight national and local projects under an initiative to support and improve employment opportunities for family carers.
The Department claims the initiative, which is under the Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2024, “will place a special focus on empowering family carers to re-enter or remain in paid employment, education and training through a range of targeted interventions”.
Both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have pledged to remove the Carer’s Allowance means test, but Meelick-based 2024 Netwatch Clare Family Carer of the Year Cora Nix believes false promises have been made in the past.
