Unions Criticise Manner In Which Staff Learnt Of Aer Lingus Shannon Base Closure

Unions are criticising the manner in which Shannon Aer Lingus employees’ learnt of the airlines decision to permanently close its base at the airport.

Staff were told yesterday of the decision, with more than 80 people set to be made redundant from the 1st of July.

Aer Lingus says immediate actions and structural changes are required due to the impact of the crisis over the last 15 months.

The airline says it may, subject to certain conditions, open what it describes as a limited voluntary severance opportunity for cabin crew in Dublin to facilitate the redeployment of some Shannon-based staff.
