Transport Minister Admits ‘Rebalancing’ Of Aviation Policy Needed To Give Shannon ‘A Lift’

The Minister for Transport admits a ‘rebalancing’ is needed of national aviation policy to give Shannon Airport a ‘lift’.

It comes amid repeated calls this week for this county’s airport offering to be used to a greater extent by airlines in response to the capacity crisis being experienced in Dublin.

The DAA has admitted it’s engaged with airlines on the possibility of Shannon and other airports taking traffic from Dublin, but says it would be logistically difficult to implement.

The current National Aviation Policy dates back to 2015, though it’s understood the Department plans to draft a fresh strategy imminently.

Speaking in the Dail, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan insists further traffic needs to be developed in Shannon post-Covid.
