It’s believed United Airlines could be resuming transatlantic services from Shannon next year.

Bookings are now being accepted on the airline’s website for flights between the Midwest airport and Newark in 2022, however the move hasn’t yet been formally announced.

The route, which operated daily from April to October, was pulled last year when pandemic restrictions took hold, and the airline subsequently informed Shannon Group that it would not return in 2021.

Shannon Group has previously indicated that transatlantic services won’t resume until Spring next year, while there has been no commitment from Aer Lingus about the resumption of its New York or Boston services or from American Airlines about services it previously operated.

Clare’s Independent TD, Michael McNamara says the resumption of the United Airlines service would be “some badly needed good news on transatlantic connectivity”.
