The Director of Shannon Chamber has described recognition from the government that multi-annual funding may be needed to support Shannon Airport’s recovery as a step forward.

In the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform’s spending review, they acknowledge the aviation sector may see a ‘twin track’ recovery in Ireland, with Dublin recovering strongly, and regional airports – including Shannon – responding more slowly.

The review states additional future funding under the Regional Airports Programme may be required, particularly for Shannon and Cork.

Kevin Thompstone, presented a business case for Shannon Airport’s recovery in March, and says this latest development bodes well in terms of future funding.
