In its latest economic statement, Ryanair confirmed the airline carries over 3.5million passengers through Munster each year – contributing over €135m to the Irish economy.

The airline is operating 21 routes out of Shannon Airport this winter, with destinations for the summer season yet to be confirmed.

Ryanair has 2 aircraft based at Shannon Airport and 3 in Cork – totaling a combined investment of 500 million dollars.

The airline currently supports 3,000 jobs in the province each year, and has plans to expand its offering further.

In May, Ryanair officially opened its 10m three-bay heavy maintenance facility in Shannon, creating 200 new jobs in the process.

Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Jade Kirwan, says as the company embarks “on a new decade of growth and investment in Munster and Ireland as a whole” it plans to “grow Irish traffic from 20m to 30m per annum” by 2030.

It comes as Ryanair’s Commercial Director, Jason McGuinness and CEO of the Shannon Airport Group, Mary Considine will host a press conference at the airport later this morning.
