A flight from Dublin to the U.S. was forced to turned around over the Atlantic and divert to Shannon Airport this afternoon after the crew declared a medical emergency.
United Airlines flight UA-22 took off from Dublin at around 9.55am and was about 90 minutes into its journey to Newark in New Jersey when the crew turned around and diverted to Shannon.
The crew reported they had an ill passenger on board and requested emergency medical services to be standing for them on arrival.
The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner landed safely at 12.30pm and was met at the terminal by ambulance paramedics and airport authorities.
The passenger was removed to hospital for treatment and the plane has since continued on its journey.
The same flight diverted to Shannon with an ill passenger on August 5th last.
Earlier this month, another flight from Dublin to the U.S. was forced to turn around over the Atlantic and divert to Shannon.
Aer Lingus flight EI-119 was about two hours into its journey when the crew declared a medical emergency and turned around. The flight was met on arrival by National Ambulance Service paramedics who removed the patient to hospital for treatment.
