Clare’s Fine Gael TD says government needs to ’embrace’ the EU’s traffic light system for air travel later this month, to ensure Ryanair retains its winter base at Shannon Airport.

The airline says it has notified Transport Minister Eamon Ryan of its intentions to take action if the government fails to adopt an EU travel list from October 13th.

The company claims Ireland has remained uniquely ‘locked up’ to travel within Europe since July 1st.

Deputy Joe Carey, who is Chair of a cross-party Oireachtas committee on the airport, says pre-departure testing also needs to be considered.

However, the Government says it’s travel policy won’t be dictated to be Ryanair.

Junior Transport Minister, and Limerick TD Niall Collins, says the Government will have a plan for the travel list.
