Fresh Calls For Review Of Aviation Policy In Wake Of Aer Lingus Decision On Shannon-Heathrow Service

There are fresh calls for a review of aviation policy to force Dublin Airport to shed flights it’s not able to manage, in favour of more services from Shannon.

It follows Aer Lingus’ decision to cancel one of three daily flights between Shannon and Heathrow this week, citing the passenger cap at Heathrow Airport as the reason for the move.

Clare Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley says the move has dealt a significant blow to the region and sends the wrong signal.

But the Mountshannon Senator says he’s confused as to why the Commission of Aviation Regulation or the Department of Transport haven’t put a similar cap in place on Dublin Airport.

A spokesperson for Shannon Group confirmed:

“We have been informed by Aer Lingus that selected flights on one of its three daily Aer Lingus services from Shannon to Heathrow have been cancelled.

The airline has advised us that this is due to London Heathrow’s mandated capacity reduction. Our advice to passengers is to keep in contact with their airline  for flight updates.”

Below is an update on the Aer Lingus Shannon Heathrow cancelled services for the coming week.

Monday 18th July EI387 London Heathrow – Shannon

Tuesday 19th -Thursday 21st July – EI387/388 London Heathrow – Shannon – London Heathrow

Friday 22nd – no Shannon cancellation

Saturday 23rd – EI385 London Heathrow – Shannon

Sunday 24th – no Shannon cancellation
