Clare Government Senator Brands Lack Of Antigen Testing As ‘Ridiculous’

A Clare Government Senator has branded what he describes as a failure to endorse rapid antigen testing as ‘ridiculous’.

It comes as Dr Tony Holohan is set to appear before the Oireachtas Transport Committee this afternoon to explain his position on why PCR testing has been favoured here over quicker, though less accurate antigen tests.

Concerns continue to be raised about the pace of the reopening of international travel, with fears expressed that job losses in Shannon’s Lufthansa Technik may be on the way the latest in a number of difficulties faced by the aviation industry locally.

Fianna Fail Senator Timmy Dooley, who sits on the Transport Committee, says a lack of antigen testing in airports is preventing a meaningful recovery for the sector.
