Average waiting times at some of the country’s emergency departments are one hour longer compared to 10 years ago.
New HSE figures released to Aontú through a parliamentary question show people are waiting 8.6 hours to get a hospital bed or be discharged from the ED at University Hospital Limerick.
However, wait times are longer at certain hospitals, with people waiting an average of just over 12-and-a-half hours at Tallaght Hospital in Dublin, and just under 11-and-a-half hours at Naas Hospital in Kildare.
Meanwhile, trolley numbers at the region’s main hospital are more than double the combined total of all ten eastern hospitals today.
The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 114 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning.
The overall figures is three times higher than the next busiest facility; Cork University Hospital and represents a third of the numbers on trolleys at Irish Hospitals today.
