Before that, you have to go back to 2006 when the mercury hit 22.2 on average to have had a warmer July here.

The maximum temperature here hit 29.6 degrees last month, and you again have to go back 15 years for the last time that happened, when it notched over 30 degrees.

Despite the heat, it was a slightly wetter month than average overall, with 85.3 millimetres of rain falling in July – nearly 13 millimetres of which fell in just one day.

It is, however, a sharp reduction of last year’s number of 129.7.

August temperatures are traditionally higher than July, as is rainfall – though whether that trend will continue in 2021 remains to be seen.
