Clare was the 9th least expensive county for an Approved Housing Body to build a social home last year.
New figures show the cost of providing most social homes in this county was just below a quarter of a million euro.
Of the 302 new social homes built in Clare last year, 146 were delivered by Approved Housing Bodies.
According to the Housing Finance Agency’s latest annual report, it invested €36.1m in AHBs operating in this county last year, which brings the average cost of the respective social homes built in this county to €247,500.
Significantly below the national average of €287,000, with approximately 4,525 homes delivered across the country.
Although the number of homes built is not broken down by type such as apartments or the size of properties, Clare’s delivery is still comparatively better than in most other local authority areas.
The report shows that just 19 homes were delivered in Tipperary, despite an investment of €16m, which indicates a cost of €842,000 per unit.
However costs in Cork, Kildare, Waterford, Kilkenny, Galway, Laois, Carlow and Louth were significantly lower than Clare, with the average price of an Approved Housing Body Social Home in Galway coming in at €75,000.
