The average age of first time mothers in Clare fell in the second quarter of 2023
The CSO’s Vital Statistics Report for the second quarter of 2023 also shows that over 40% of children were born outside of marriage in Clare in that period.
Between April and June of this year, there were 305 babies born in the Banner County; 155 of them boys and 150 girls.
Of that number, 134 or 43.9%, were born outside of marriage, while the 30 to 34 age bracket accounted for the majority of births.
Only three babies were born to teenage mothers in that period, while 25 women over 40 welcomed a new addition.
The average mother in Clare in the first quarter of this year was 33 years of age but the average first-time mother was 31.4 years old – the first time it’s dropped this low in two years.
In terms of deaths, 227 people passed away between April and June in Clare.
Circulatory disease was the main cause of death in the county with 69 people succumbing to it while cancer was responsable for 58 deaths which means both conditions accounted for 55.9% of all deaths during this period.
Meanwhile, there were seven dementia-related and one Alzheimer’s Disease related deaths while eight deaths were attributed to Covid-19.
