Aughinish Alumina has promised to provide enhanced and verifiable evidence that its exports have no connection to the Russian Military.
It follows the completion of the independent review conducted by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment into exports from the Shannon Estuary based Plant.
In a statement to Clare FM, Aughinish Alumina says it took the allegations made in media reports with the utmost seriousness.
The company says it cooperated fully with the Government review and note that the findings conclude there is no evidence that the alumina produced at the refinery in Ireland is used in Russia’s military supply chain.
In seeking to find ways to provide additional transparency to the satisfaction of all parties, Aughinish and its parent company UC Rusal, have developed a framework to provide further enhanced traceability of Aughinish’s alumina.
The framework involves independent, third-party verification by a global company, who will monitor the alumina flows from Aughinish and subsequent export out of Russia of the aluminium produced from Aughinish’s alumina in Russian smelters.
According to Aughinish, this will provide enhanced, third party, verifiable evidence to the Government and the EU Commission that the alumina from Aughinish which enters Russia, and the subsequent aluminium produced from this alumina, has no connection whatsoever to the Russian military supply chain.
