The number of attendances at Ennis’ Medical Assessment Unit have increased by more than 50 percent in the past two years.
The Gort Road facility has capacity to see 32 patients per day on weekdays and 18 patients per day at weekends.

However, while attendances have continued to increase by a further 8 percent in the first five months of this year alone, the average number of beds open there has remained static since before the onset of COVID-19.
Scariff-based Independent TD Michael McNamara says other areas of the country which have lower overcrowding numbers than this region have seen bed capacity go up.
