Assault Victim With Clare Links Calls For More Women’s Refuges

An assault victim with strong Clare links claims there aren’t enough refuges for women who need to flee their abusers.

New data from Women’s Aid shows 33% of women who contacted the service last year experienced abuse from their ex-partner.

A new documentary will air tonight on Natasha O’Brien’s life after being assaulted by Ardnacrusha native and then member of the Irish Defence Forces Cathal Crotty who initially received a three-year suspended sentence in June 2024, before it’s leniency was appealed by the DPP, eventually leading to a jail term.

Natasha, whose father is from Kilkee, says women who experience abuse in the home can’t leave if there’s nowhere to go.
