As FF prepare to oust Ahern– Martin denies attempts to collapse Mahon

 

The Fianna Fail leader says achievements like the Good Friday Agreement can’t absolve Bertie Ahern from facing the implications of the Mahon Tribunal report.

Micheál Martin says the former Taoiseach fell short of the standard of personal behaviour which all holders of public office should uphold.

He also says there are no circumstances in which the revelation in the report that Padraig Flynn accepted a 50,000 punts payment could be justified.

The Fianna Fail National Executive is to meet next Friday to vote on a motion to expel Bertie Ahern, Padraig Flynn and three councillors from the party.

Micheál Martin is also insisting he never tried to undermine the integrity of the Tribunal – which says attempts were made by some to collapse its investigation:
