It has a current workforce of 485 and following today’s announcement that Atlantic Aviation Group has acquired the business, approximately 300 roles have been secured.

It means, however, that around 180 roles are at risk of redundancy, with staff informed this morning that the consultation process around the proposed redundancies will commence over the coming weeks.

The CEO and MD of Lufthansa Technik Shannon has stated that “the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic led to an extensive strategic review of the business to determine its future”.

Pat Shine says “every option was explored, the priority being to protect the maximum number of jobs and the specialist experience of the LTSL workforce”.

AAG claims the acquisition positions the company to continue its ongoing growth trajectory and avail of opportunities provided by the post-pandemic rebound in international aviation.

It brings its total workforce to approximately 740 people across sites in Shannon and Brize Norton in the UK and AAG says for the remainder of 2021, both will focus on transition planning with the aim to have a smooth integration in early 2022.

Shannon Group has welcomed the announcement of the sale, saying that both AAG and Lufthansa are an important part of the Shannon Free Zone’s ecosystem and the cluster of aviation businesses here.

In a statement, CEO Mary Considine has congratulated AAG and wished “them every success into the future”.

The sale is subject to merger clearance from the CCPC and is due to be complete by March 31st next year.
