The Army Bomb Disposal Team has carried out a controlled explosion on what’s been described as a viable grenade in Ennis this afternoon.

The historical object, which dates back to the civil war period, was discovered by an employee at Clare County Council’s recycling facility on the Gort Road in the town earlier today.
Gardai were alerted, and in turn they called in the army bomb disposal unit who carried out the explosion. The recycling centre is now open to the public once more.
